Rhea Gwendolyn "Gwen" (Jones) Wright, 89 of Bellevue, Michigan died unexpectedly at Ascension Borgess in Kalamazoo on Thursday, December 8, 2022.
Gwen was born September 22, 1933 in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of Albert E. and Glenna Fern (Van Blarcom) Jones. She was raised in Assyria Township, where she attended elementary school and was a 1951 graduate of Bellevue High School. Gwen was employed briefly at Security National Bank. Gwen and her husband, James opened, owned and operated D-K Fence Company most of their lives. Gwen retired in 1992. The family business is currently owned and operated by her son, Jim and her grandson, Dave.
Rhea Gwendolyn Jones and James L. Wright were united in marriage on July 1, 1951 in Assyria Township on her family's farm, known as "WhistleCote Acres". Gwen was preceded in death by her husband Jim on July 3, 2000. Surviving are their children, Lorraine Kendall of Battle Creek, Nola (Bruce) Lindberg, of Dowling, Julie (KenRoss) Strohm of Bellevue, James (Linda) Wright of Hastings; son-in-law Gary (Sandra) Wank of Mattawan; grandchildren, Darcy Kendall, Geoffrey (Christine) Lindberg, Bruce (Courtney) Lindberg, Micheal (Cassaday) Wank, Richard (Kyle) Wank, David (Jennifer) Wright, Sara (Darrell) Barnum, DeeAnne Wright, Jamie (Lee) Hays; 16 great grandchildren; a brother, Milford (Sandra) Jones and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to her husband, Gwen was also preceded in death by a son, Eldon David "Dave" Wright, her parents and a brother and sister-in-law Milburn and Beth Jones.
Gwen was a member of Country Chapel, where she and her husband were longtime active worshipers and supporters. (She was currently serving in the nursery.) She was a member of Bedford Area Lioness Club and a former 4-H leader. She loved opening the mail and received tons of it. She generously gave a little to many organizations. Tuesdays were special⦠a happy- fun weekly tradition with her grandchildren. Tuesdays were "Grandma Day". Gwen will also be remembered for the "millions" of cookies she baked for different church functions, her equal number of cards she sent to family and friends celebrating special occasions and for her unconditional love to everyone.
Friends will be received 2:00- 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2022, at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Cremation Preneed Care. A funeral service to celebrate Gwen's life will be held at Country Chapel, 9275 M-37, Dowling, MI 49050 on Monday, December 19, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. A live-streaming service will be recorded at facebook.com/countrychapel. Committal and interment will follow at Union - Joy Cemetery, where Gwen will be laid to rest next to her husband Jim, the love of her life.
