Richard C. "Dick" Masters, age 87, of Marshall died peacefully at home with his loving family at his side on Thursday afternoon, May 16, 2013. He was born in Convis Township, Michigan on April 8, 1926, the loving son of Claude J. and Bertha Marie (Jones) Masters. Dick served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. He retired in 1986 from Post Cereals after more than 41 years of faithful service. In addition to working at Post Cereals, Dick also drove school buses for Harper Creek, Battle Creek and Union City Schools.
Dick married the love of his life, Lois Lucille Letts in Angola, Indiana on February 17, 1951; she survives. Together they enjoyed more than 62 wonderful years of marriage. He is also survived by his son Dennis Keith (Joanne) Masters of Florida; his daughters, Sandra K. Masters of Kalamazoo and Barbara L. (Ralph) Fitch of Marshall; a granddaughter, Stephanie (Marc) Garlock; a great-grandson, Brendan Garlock; a sister, Donna C. Willis and several nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, E. Arlene Bender, Alma Deleney and Roberta Holibaugh.
Dick was a member of the Post 25 Year Club and the former Burlington Men's Club. He enjoyed listening to country music, traveling, taking long drives in the car and loved spending time with his family.
A visitation will be held 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where funeral services to celebrate Dick's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 20, 2013. Interment with military honors will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials directed to Oaklawn Hospice, would be appreciated.
