Richard P. Mullett, 68, of Battle Creek died at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence on Saturday, November 9, 2013.
Rick was born on October 8, 1945 in Battle Creek, MI to Robert Richard and Jean E. (Werner) Mullett. Rick grew up in Battle Creek and graduated from Harper Creek High School in 1963. He served as a medic in the U.S. Army for 34 months, was honorably discharged as an SP5 in 1965 and attended Kellogg Community College. Rick worked with his father at Mullett Motor's in Pennfield, while working for the Kellogg Company, where he retired in 1996 after 29 years of service.
Surviving are Kathy Kent Vogt, whom Rick has been with for 35 years; daughter, Devorah (Damon) Powell of Orlando, FL; son, Christopher (Jayna) Mullett of Battle Creek; five grandchildren, Tayler, Allyson and Drew Powell, and Carson and Isabella Mullett; two sisters, Judie (Harold) Moore and Susan (Larry) Scott all of Battle Creek; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Rick was a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club. He enjoyed working with his hands and loved the outdoors, all kinds of fishing, whether in Canada, on the beach in Florida, on lakes or ice. He also enjoyed golfing, snow skiing and he played, coached and sponsored softball. Rick was very generous, caring, thoughtful and had a great sense of humor.
Friends will be received 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at the funeral home 11:30 a.m. Thursday, November 14, 2013. Military honors and inurnment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
