Robert W. Barker II, 75, was born on April 28, 1949 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and passed away on March 6, 2025 at Bronson Hospital in Battle Creek. He was the son of Robert and Eleanor Barker of Battle Creek. Bob was a great and caring individual who was totally involved in his business, his hobbies, and most importantly his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mardell (Mardi); his sister, Joan Cheyne; brothers, Doug (Sandra) Barker, David (Kindra) Barker; brother-in-law, Darrel (Susan) Schrader; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Wayne Cheyne.
After his graduation from Pennfield High School in 1967, he attended Purdue University in Lafayette, IN. While working in Fargo, North Dakota he met Mardell Rae Schrader and they were married on November 13, 1976. In 1980, he and Mardi relocated to Battle Creek and Bob joined the family business, the Keyes-Davis Company, working in several capacities.
A couple of years after the passing of his father in 1985, Bob became the President and Owner of Keyes-Davis. He remained in those roles until his death. As a boy, Bob enjoyed the Boy Scouts of America and along with his Father and brothers was an Eagle Scout. Bob and Mardi enjoyed boating and fishing and kept a boat and condominium in Saugatuck, MI and Key Largo, FL. Bob and Mardi doted on their various nieces and nephews and supported them in a variety of ways. They also adored their dogs and enjoyed many over the years, the most recent was a beautiful Golden Retriever named “Ray”.
A graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Humane Society of Battle Creek (2500 Watkins Rd), or a charity of your choice in Bob’s honor. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
