Robert H. "Bob" Carroll, 92, of Battle Creek, Michigan died Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Brookdale Senior Living.
Bob was born March 4, 1925 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Richard and Florence (White) Carroll. He grew up in Battle Creek, where he attended school, worked several years and then joined the U.S. Army. He honorably served his country during WWII at Normandy, in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe, receiving five bronze stars. Bob retired in 2007, after 65 years with Iron Workers Local # 340, primarily working on commercial and industrial buildings. He also worked for Schweitzer Construction. Bob also owned and operated Two Johns Lunch and Lounge in Springfield for several years.
Bob married Betty Elaine Bracy on January 12, 1946. Sadly he was preceded in death by Betty, his wife of 61years on September 15, 2007. Surviving are his daughter, Linda Lee (Edward) Groff of Battle Creek; three grandchildren; three sisters, Eva Moldenhauer and Connie Parsons both of Battle Creek, Sharon Heidenreich of Columbia, TN; a brother, Jack (Gloria) Carroll of Martinsville, Indiana, and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to his wife, Bob was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Kane Luedecking; and two brothers, Donald and Richard Carroll.
Bob was a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge #207 F & AM. Bob was always interested in aviation. He had a private pilot license and loved to fly. He also had numerous VCR tapes of WWII military aviation and history that he loved to watch. Bob was also proud of the two houses he designed and built.
Friends will be received 9:30 â 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where funeral service will be held 10:30 Wednesday, August 30, 2017. Military honors, committal and burial will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
