Robert L. "Bob" Hutson

Robert L. "Bob" Hutson, age 70, of Battle Creek, died Sunday morning, December 3, 2017. He was born in Grand Rapids on August 22, 1947, the son of Russ and Minnie (VanderWeide) Hutson. Bob graduated from Ottawa Hills High School of Grand Rapids in 1965. He joined the United States Navy that same year and served out of Norfolk, VA until 1968. Bob graduated from Western Michigan University with a BS in Education in 1972. He worked for ServiceMaster Management Corp. for 16 years and owned his own ServiceMaster franchise, serving Calhoun County for 10 years.

Bob married Susan E. "Sue" Conklin at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek on November 16, 1968; she survives. He is also survived by his children, Kris (Mike) Johnson of Marshall and Eric Hutson of Alma, MI; four grandchildren, Joseph (Ashley) Hutson of Battle Creek, Anthony (Sarah) Ramirez of Marshall, Allison Johnson of Marshall and Brittany Johnson of Baldwin, MI; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Evelyn, Lucia, Adilyn, Weston, Riley, Bentley and Zariah; and two sisters, Patricia (Mike) Piechocki and Rosemary Jeruzal, both of Rockford.

Bob loved sports and especially loved watching his grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing basketball and golf. He was a member of the Hope Reformed Church and the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek & Marshall. He was a leader of the Middle School Youth Group and taught Adult Sunday School. More than anything, Bob truly loved his family.

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 6th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care where funeral services to celebrate Bob's life will be held 3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 7th. Interment with full military honors will be held privately at the Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the First Tee of Battle Creek.
