Robert Joseph “Bob” Motzell of Kalamazoo and formerly of Gull Lake passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at home surrounded by family. He was born in Battle Creek on May 27, 1930, the son of Marion G. and Phoebe “Irene” (Large) Motzell. He faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Navy and retired from General Foods/Post Cereals in 1987 after more than 38 years.

Bob married the “Love of His Life”, Marilyn Flanders in Battle Creek on October 11, 1952. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 72 years, Marilyn; his children, Marla (Peter) Luce of Montana, Ron (Doraine) Motzell of Hickory Corners, Randy (Brenda) Motzell of Brighton, and Shelly (Bob) Hard of Burlington; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; his granddogs, Bella & Lucky; two brothers-in-law, Rich Logan and Bob (Betty) Flanders; and several nieces, nephews, cousins & special caregivers, Rosie Kovac-Jager, Holly Bishop and Wendy Schmidt. Bob was preceded in death his parents; a great-granddaughter, Harlyn; a sister, Natala Logan; and brother & sister-in-law, Jack & Shirley Squier. 

Bob was a member of the Hickory Corners American Legion, the Augusta VFW, the Battle Creek Antique Car Club, and the Post 25-Year Club. He had an incredible work ethic and sense of humor. Bob enjoyed waterskiing, boating, ice skating, BBQ’ing, ballroom dancing, playing poker, watching Michigan Sports, socializing, and a “Great Martini”. 

At Bob’s request, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life gathering will be held 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday August 2nd at the Hickory Corners American Legion Post #484. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan, Elara Caring Hospice and/or the Hickory Corners American Legion Post #484.
