Robert L. Rizor, age 95, passed away at Bronson Battle Creek, Saturday, February 21, 2015. He was born in Battle Creek on August 26, 1919 to Lyman Earl and Hazel (Hoffman) Rizor.
Robert was married to Evolyn Hughes on February 6,1943 in Battle Creek. He is survived by his son Wayne and Anne Marie of Kalamazoo, and two daughters; Janice (Joe) Foss of Battle Creek and Sheila Scott of Rutherfordton, NC. Grandchildren; Wendy (Rizor) and Matt Brush, Steve and Kate Rizor, Jeremy Scott and Jason Scott and three great grandchildren Zachary Brush, Ashley Brush and Lauren Brush; and two sisters; Virginia (LaVerne) Gladstone and Vendela Simmons. Robert was preceded in death by his wife Evolyn (Hughes) in 2011 and by a brother Richard.
Robert was a proud Army veteran of WWII. He entered the service in July 15, 1941 and was discharged in December 30, 1945. He served in Germany as a BAR man with Patton's 3rd Army, Co F, 2nd Battalion, 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division. He retired from Eaton Corporation, Valve Division in Battle Creek after 31 years of service. He was an avid hiker and often walked six miles a day until well into his eighties. His favorite hobby was collecting Indian relics and at one time had about 4,000 pieces.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 25, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where funeral services to celebrate Robert's life will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 26, officiated by the Rev.
