Russell W. "Russ" Hoyt, 91, of Richland, Michigan died peacefully at Kairos Dwelling on Friday, May 21, 2021.
Russ was born on July 14, 1929 in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of Earl Francis and Blanche (Towne) Hoyt. A longtime resident of Richland he graduated from Richland High School in 1948. Russ began his apprenticeship at the Grand Trunk Railroad and retired from his career as a journeyman machinist in 1990 from GM. He was a longtime member of the Kalamazoo Antique Tractor Club and was an avid collector of antique cars, tractors and engines. He also enjoyed travelling, fishing and camping.
Russ was united in marriage to Alice Marie Mercer on November 23, 1949. Surviving are his daughter Katherine (Don) McKean; two sons, James (Ellen) Hoyt and Stanley (Betsy) Hoyt; a sister, Lois (James) Richmond; a brother-in-law, Bruce Steele; and two grandchildren. Russ was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a sister, Mary Lou Steele.
Friends will be received 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Ave. Richland, MI 49083, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Committal and interment will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery in Richland.
