Sandra Mae Wedel

Sandra M. Wedel, 81, of Augusta, died May 23, 2021. Sandra was born January 29, 1940 in Hastings to Ellsworth and Alice (Sebastian) Newton. She attended Hastings Public School and graduated from Galesburg-Augusta High School. She then married Gerald (Jerry) Wedel on April 19, 1958.

Sandra was an avid, life-long horse lover. She raised and showed POA ponies with her daughters and grand-daughter. She was the 4-H horse leader in Kalamazoo County for 15 years. Sandra was a bus driver for 26 years at Gull Lake Schools and still found time to race snowmobiles and raise dogs. She also enjoyed taking care of her lawn, reading and taking care of her pets and animals.

Sandra is survived by her two daughters, Kathy (Ed) Berg and Sherry (Mike) Shirley; her grandchildren, Kevin and Mike Shirley, Dan Berg, Audra Ford, Fallon Moore, Sarah Trayer and John Berg; 13 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and a brother, Fred Newton.

Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; her parents and a sister, Betty Axel.

Cremation has taken place and a graveside service to celebrate her life will be 9:30 a.m., Friday, June 4, 2021 at Fort Custer National Cemetery, officiated by Rev. James L. Sparks.
