Stanley B. "Stan" Hill of Dowling, MI
Stan, age 72, died Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital and surrounded by his loving family.
Stan, the son of Dewey S. and Lucy L. (Dishman) Hill, was born in Livingston, TN on November 20, 1943. He served his country honorably and nobly in the United States Army as a SP5 with the 7th Infantry. Stan had been employed at Eaton Corporation as a machinist and retired in 2005 after 15 years of faithful service with MetalDyne of Middleville, MI. He was avid hunter, fisherman and camper and found enjoyment doing all three in the Upper Peninsula. Stan attended many NASCAR races cheering on his favorite driver, "Smoke" - # 14, Tony Stewart. His allegiance was to the Washington Redskins and THE University of Michigan Football Teams. His passion later in life was watching all his grandkids sporting events, while consuming numerous hot dogs!
Stan was united in marriage in Battle Creek, MI on August 15, 1980 to Christine E. (nee: Hewitt) after being together since 1973. Surviving is his wife of 35 years, Chris; two daughters, Dawn M. (Tim) Kepler of Charlotte, MI and Kimberly A. (Scott) Johnson of Hastings, MI; two sons, Robert D. "Rob" (Sheri) Hill and Richard D. Hill, both of Ionia, MI; two step-sons, Brian (Kathy) Davis of Clarksville, TN and Richard Merrill of Australia; a step-daughter, Tracey Merrill of Arizona; twelve grandchildren; a sister, Mary Swanson of Battle Creek and numerous nieces and nephews. Stan was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Wanda Gamber and a brother, Joel Hill.
The Graveside Service to celebrate Stan's life will be held on Tuesday, December 8th at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI with Rev. Steven S. Olmstead, Pastor of Pleasantview Family Church of Dowling, officiating and the United States Army Honor Guard and the Fort Custer Honor Guard bestowing full, military honors. Stan's family will greet friends on Tuesday from Noon until 2:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funereal Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. Immediately following the Graveside Service, family and friends are invited to the Pleasantville Family Church, 2601 Lacey Road, Dowling, MI 49050 to continue Stan's life celebration with a time of fellowship and a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Stan's honor may be directed to the American Cancer Society, Great Lakes Division, 1400 West Milham Road, Potage, MI 49024 or the Amercian Heart Association.
