Stephen G. "Steve" "Coop" Cooper

Stephen G. "Steve" "Coop" Cooper, age 68 of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side on Saturday evening, June 25, 2022. He was born in Battle Creek on May 18, 1954, the son of Franklin and Helen (Stanton) Cooper. Steve graduated from Springfield High School with the Class of 1972 and faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Navy. He retired in 2007 after nearly 30 years in transportation at Clark Equipment, Watkins Motor Lines and FedEx.

Steve married the "Love of His Life", Sharon R. Chalfant in Battle Creek on March 29, 1975. He is survived by his wife of more than 47 years, Sharon; his children, Shannon (Herb) Cooper-Hancock, Stephen II. (Cindi) Cooper of Georgia, and Khris (Stephanie) Carr of Texas; his grandchildren, Josh, Alexis, Aliyah, Landon, Ashlyn, Sammy Cooper, Nayah and Jaida Carr; his sister, Lyla (Jerry) Schmidt of Florida; and his favorite child, "Juno" the dog. Steve was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, David Lydick; and a sister, Carol Harms.

A wonderful & caring man, Steve had a passion for serving veterans and was a member of the DAV, the American Legion Post #465, and volunteered at various events at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center. A true "Jack of All Trades", Steve was known as your backyard mechanic and everybody's handyman. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes & motorcycles, and truly loved spending time with his family, but most especially his grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 29th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. Funeral services to celebrate Steve's life will be held 11:30 a.m., Thursday, June 30th at the North Avenue Church of God, 1079 North Avenue, Battle Creek. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. Memorials directed to the Haven of Rest, would be appreciated.
