Susan M. Hallaxs

Susan Marie (Thurston) Hallaxs, 84 of Battle Creek, MI, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, 31January 2025. She was born in Battle Creek, MI, to Helen Della (Summers) Thurston and Martin (Fritz) R. Thurston. Sue married the love of her life and sweet heart David L. Hallaxs Sr. (Navy veteran) husband of 63 years. Susan moved around the country, Rhode Island, Texas, California and Virginia, with him, and then returned to Battle Creek. Sue was a stay-at-home mom, where she took care, of her three children. She loved and enjoyed fishing, embroidery, hook rugs, reading, and patio gardening. 

Sue is survived by her brother Jimmy Thurston of Idaho, sons; US Army, 1SG, retired David L. (Mary) Hallaxs Jr., Air Force Veteran SSgt Victor A. (Laura) Hallaxs; her daughter, Belinda J. (David) Dowding; grandchildren, Heather (MSgt Marc) Watson, Sarah (Jay) Burson, Hunter Ashley Dowding and Savannah (Eric) Burton; great-grandchildren, Cadance, Victoria, Evelynn Marie, Sylvie, Saylor-Wren, Trey, Ember and Elliana; niece(s) Kimberly Nelson of Orlando FL and Sheree Hadden; nephews, Brian (Desire) Hallaxs and Mike Knight.

Susan was preceded in death by: Her husband, David L, Hallaxs Sr.; dad, Martin (Fritz) R. Thurston; mom, Helen D. Olsen; brother, Gary Crawford; sisters, Patricia Knight and Linda M. Hadden. 

Sue’s final words would always be “Call me”.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 7th 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care.
