Tamara Mae (Acker) Hammock

Tamara Mae (Acker) Hammock, 77 of Battle Creek died at The Oaks on January 2, 2018.

She was born November 13, 1940 at the former Lakeview General Hospital to Ned and Helen (Wilkins) Acker. Tamara was raised at Mill Lake by Grandma Maude Aker and was a 1959 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School, where she was a member of the synchronized swimming team. She was employed at Ralston's, Cut Rate Supermarket and Ben Franklin Five & Dime.

Tamara Mae Acker was united in marriage to Ralph Edward Hammock on May 4, 1960 in Battle Creek. Sadly she was preceded in death by her husband, "Bud" on November 1, 2002. Surviving are two sons, Edward A. (Amanda) Hammock and Michael R. Hammock both of East Leroy; a former daughter-in-law, Miriam Melendez; six grandchildren, Luis (Christene) Solis, Bruce Melendez, Bella Christina Solis, Vicente Solis, Michaela Hammock, Madison Andrews; and five great-grandchildren, Karria Watkins, Malaysha Melendez, Kamden Watkins, Kensington Watkins and Karson Watkins. In addition to her husband Tamara was also preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Edward Hammock on July 16, 2006 and a daughter, Cathy Marie Hammock on April 19, 2007.

Tamara was a member of Cornerstone Community Church. She was a Cub Scout den mother when her sons were active in scouting and active with the Blue Birds, Camp Fire Girls when her daughter was growing up. She loved fishing; and enjoyed Barn Ceramics, where she was creative and made many friendships. Tamara was a loving wife and mother; and always made her family come first. She will be remembered as being very unselfish, patient, caring, giving and loving to all of her family and friends.

Friends will be received by Tamara's family 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
