Terry Grant Thurman

Terry Grant Thurman, 68, of Battle Creek, died Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Terry was born October 28, 1949 in Battle Creek to Elder and Gladys (Houston) Thurman. He graduated from Springfield High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy. Terry retired from the Federal Center as a boiler technician in 2003.

Terry loved the outdoors, including fishing, hunting, caring for animals and riding his motorcycle. He loved his family, and he was a good husband, father and grandpa.

Terry leaves behind his wife Valerie Monarch Thurman of 24 years. He is also survived by his son, Timothy Grant Thurman; two daughters, Amanda Nicole Gray and CoraSha Elaine Thurman; a step-son, James Julius Martin Monarch; six grandchildren; a sister, Billie Sue Mainstone; and four brothers, J.D., Danny, Jimmy and Ricky Thurman. Terry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack and Ron Thurman; and a sister, Della Thurman.

A visitation will be held 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 30, 2018 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. A graveside service with full military honors to celebrate Terry's life will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
