Theresa Julia (Sittig) Buckingham, 84, of Battle Creek died peacefully at her home Friday, August 23, 2019 surrounded by family, under the compassionate care of Southern Care Hospice. Theresa was born June 2, 1935 in Three Oaks, Michigan the daughter of Paul F. and Frances T. (Stuppi) Sittig. She was raised in Three Oaks and was a 1953 graduate of Three Oaks High School, moving to Battle Creek in 1956. Theresa was a loving homemaker, wife and mother.
Theresa J. Sittig was united in marriage to F.M. "Red" Buckingham on October 16, 1954 in Three Oaks, MI. Theresa was preceded in death by Red on July 14, 1997. Surviving are five daughters: Karen (Bryan) Lilly of Jasper, IN; Linda M. Frederickson of Charlotte, MI; Cheryl D. Buckingham of Chicago, IL; Mary M. Buckingham of Battle Creek; Susan F. Buckingham of Three Oaks, MI; one son, Alan D. Buckingham of Three Oaks, MI; ten grandchildren: Meredith, Marc, Lauren and Alexis Lilly; Frank and Max Buckingham; Kimberly (Connor) Frederickson Spalding and Peyton Frederickson; Tyler Davis and Lisa Toole; two great-grandchildren: Jacob Toole and Hunter Toole-Collmar; two sisters, Loretta Covert of Jacksonville FL, and Florence (Jim) Nazarian of Ocala, FL; two brothers, Robert (Bonnie) Sittig of Lincoln, NE and John (Sandy) Sittig of Jacksonville, FL; and a sister-in-law, Betty Sittig of Tallahassee, FL. In addition to her husband, Theresa was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mark Frederickson; a grandson, Charles Buckingham Lilly; a sister, Marilyn (Buss) Zartman; two brothers, Paul (Pat) Sittig and Raymond Sittig; and a brother-in-law, Bert Covert.
Theresa was a member of St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, the Council of Catholic Women, volunteered for many community organizations and was one of the pioneers of the WSO Tiger Room Rummage Fundraiser. Theresa enjoyed shopping, sewing, bowling, traveling and reunions of any number as she loved family most of all. She will be remembered as everyone's favorite.
Theresa's family will receive friends Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. John D. Fleckenstein on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, 92 Capital Avenue N.E., Battle Creek, MI 49017. Committal and inurnment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made for St. Philip Scholarship Assistance through the Msgr. William J.
