Wesley Clair "Wes" Hungerford

December 19, 1925 — April 25, 2021

Wesley C. Hungerford, 95, of Augusta, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. Wes was born December 19, 1925, to Clair and Fern (VanHorn) Hungerford. He graduated from Kellogg Agricultural School in 1944. He spent most of his life on the Hungerford Centennial Farm in Ross Township, Michigan.

Wes held a variety of jobs, including driving the school bus starting at age 18 while a senior at the Kellogg Agricultural School and continued years later for the Gull Lake Community Schools. He also worked for Babcock Propane, Richland Farm Service and retired from the Kellogg Company with 28 years. Along with working full time jobs, his true passion was farming. After returning home from work, he would spend many long hours working in the field and attending to his livestock. Wes especially loved bailing hay, and continued farming on the centennial farm to the age of 93.

Wes was a member of the Spring Valley Church and belonged to the Eastern Star, Hickory Corners Masonic Lodge, the Kellogg Company 25 Year Club, the Pinto Association and was very involved with the Hamilton Lake and Lucky Star 4-H Club for many years. He loved camping, traveling, going to Florida in the winter and motorcycle riding with some of his closest friends. Throughout their 26 years together, Wes and Shirley enjoyed dining with close friends on a regular basis. With his first wife, Donna, he enjoyed square dancing. He was proud to have helped build the Hickory Corners American Legion Building. Wes was a long-standing pillar in the community and will be greatly missed.

Wes is survived by his wife, Shirley. The couple had just celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary last week. He is also survived by his son, Robert "Bob" (Barb) Hungerford; a daughter, Janet (Lamar) Holmes; a step-son, Dan Price; a step-daughter, Julie (Rusty) Fry; grandchildren, Erica, Holly, Kellie, Dustin, Jennie, Jackie and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Donna Marie (Green) of 45 years and his parents Clair and Fern. He is also survived by his sister, Arlene.
