William (Bill) Akins went to His Heavenly Home to see His Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ, Thursday, April 4 at the age of 86.
Bill was born June 1, 1926, to Walter & Marge Akins in Dayton, TN.
Mr. Akins married Pearl (Pat) DuPree October 11, 1946; the Akins were married over 66years at the time of his homegoing.
Bill worked for Model Plumbing with his dad, the City of Battle Creek Water Dept., and over 30 years at Eaton Manufacturing." Willie" was a UAW member, shop steward, retiring in 1981.
Other activities include usher at several churches, bowling, golf, caring for his lawn & flower pots, and greeting people. "Sonny" and wife Pat also spent many years collecting & selling antiques & glass collectibles at antique malls & the Shipshewana, Indiana Flea Market.
Mr. Akins is survived by his wife Pat, brother John (Marilyn) Akins, sister Lorraine Hamilton, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces & nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, sisters Joby Butine, Joyce (Midge) Carr, sister-in-law Barbara Niles, and brother-in-law Bernard Hamilton.
Visitation will be Monday, April 8, 2013 from 5-7p.m. at the Farley-Estes-Dowdle Funeral Home, 105 Capital Ave. NE in Battle Creek. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 9 at the Garrison Hills Wesleyan Church, 195 Bradley, Battle Creek, with Rev. Rick Weesner officiating. Interment will be Battle Creek Memorial Park Mausoleum.
