William P. "Junior" Akins, Jr., age 64, of Battle Creek went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday evening, July 5, 2018. He was born in Battle Creek on December 8, 1953, the loving son of William P. and Betty (Lowe) Akins and graduated from Springfield High School with the Class of 1972, where he wrestled and played football. Junior has resided at Calhoun County Medical Care in Battle Creek since suffering a stroke nearly 25 years ago. During his time at Calhoun County Medical Care, Junior has been Blessed with the opportunity to impact the lives of several staff and residents.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents, William and Betty Akins; two uncles, Fran Akins and Vern Ostrander; an aunt, Patricia Ostrander; and a cousin, Mike Akins. He is survived by his brother, Daniel L. "Dan" Akins; an aunt, Wanda Akins; and cousins, Dawn Clayton, Corlinda Quinn, Tim Akins, and Scott Reedy.
Junior was a lifelong member of Central Christian Church. He was an avid Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions & University of Michigan fan, and in the early years, Junior enjoyed taking camping trips with his parents.
The family will gather with friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, July 12th at the Central Christian Church, 713 Riverside Drive, Battle Creek, MI 49015, where a memorial service to celebrate Junior's life will be held at 6:00 p.m. with his brother, Pastor Dan Akins, Gordon Pippin, Minister and Rev.
