William P. Bates, Sr.

Born on June 2, 1945, William “Bill” Bates passed peacefully on the morning of Thursday, February 20, 2025. According to the dates, you would say he lived from 1945-2025, but we know it was what was within the “dash” that matters. He lived a life filled with experiences, achievements, and so much love. From professional baseball, to coaching his kids, he put his all into everything he did.

 In 1968, he married his beloved “Mouse”, his wife, Donna of 57 years. Following their marriage, he welcomed his children; Bill (Jenny), Jeff (Megan), Cathy (Tim) and Carey (John). Then came his beloved grandchildren: Kayla (Kenny), Kyle (Laura), Ashley, Ali, Trystan, Coltin, Kennadie, Gracelynn, Emmalee, Bethany and JJ — with his first great grand-child on the way.

He was a baseball player, a successful businessman, an avid fisherman, a chocolate milkshake fan, a skilled woodworker, and a lover of music and vinyl records. But mostly he was a fiercely protective family man who taught us to love each other, to help people when you can-and not expect anything in return, to remember that the people we love come first. And, of course, to appreciate all the gifts this life has to give.

His love was big, complete, over-flowing and a blessing. He is loved and will be missed by so many.

So, if you think of him, dance to the music, and think to yourself, “What a wonderful world”.
