William F. Henderson, 97, of East Leroy, died December 20, 2022. William was born May 24, 1925, in Phillipsburg, NJ, to William A. and Katherine (Siegfried) Henderson. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He later attended college at Churchman's Business School and worked for the Veterans Canteen Service as a canteen officer and supervisor for many years.
After retirement, William stayed busy with volunteer work. He did reading for the blind on the radio. He also prepared free taxes for the elderly and shut-ins and organized bingo at the old Burnham Brook Center in Battle Creek.
William is survived by his wife, Dorothy (née Riedmiller). They were married for 74 years. He is also survived by three daughters, Christine Kipper (Michael), Patricia Henderson and Eileen Henderson; three grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and his sister, Kathleen Buser. He was preceded in death by granddaughter Bethany Richmond.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate William's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
