William E. "Bill" Wolfe, 86 of Battle Creek passed on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born October 27, 1928 in Springdale, Arkansas to James William and Mamie Elizabeth (George) Wolfe. There he attended school and worked on the family farm and sawmill. Bill honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. He moved to Michigan and was employed at Michigan Carton Company for 10 years. Bill later bought a farm in Cave Springs, Arkansas, where he raised chickens for the Tyson Company, raised cattle, sold milk, and farmed field crops. Bill was also a salesman, and owned an auto body paint shop.
He raised cattle and farmed in the Pennfield area, as well as owned and operated a gas station in Fulton and Wolfe's Grocery in Morgan Corners. Bill worked at the H.B. Sherman Co. for 25 years as a machine repairman and served as the Union Steward. After retiring, Bill was the maintenance man at apartment complexes that his wife Barb managed.
Bill was formerly married to Dolores T. Myers for 10 years; they had three children William Glenn (Mary) Wolfe of Plainwell, Darrell Wolfe of Battle Creek, and Elizabeth (Keith) Carr of Kalamazoo. Bill married Barbara L. Gaskill on December 6, 1960. They had two children, Tina (Dean) Wood of East Leroy, Michelle (Jeff) Jarrard of Battle Creek. He has nine grandchildren, Sue Ellen, Shirley, Nathan, Nicklaus, Brittney, Zachary, Phillip, Emily, and Elizabeth, as well as seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Viva Collins and Minnie Collins, of Arkansas, and a special friend, Elnora Boyd of Battle Creek, who survive him. Barbara, his wife of 35 year, his parents, and two sisters Diana Sizemore and Cloma White, preceded him in death.
Bill loved to tinker on cars, lawn mowers, and anything mechanical. He enjoyed doing carpentry projects such as wooden windmills. He liked fishing and watching NASCAR racing. Throughout his lifetime, Bill always helped those in need. He volunteered at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen and delivered groceries for the Lakeview Food Pantry for 15 years. He helped friends with repairs of all kinds and drove them to appointments. He was a member of the Cornerstone Community Church and enjoyed his church family. He will be remembered for his joyful singing and love of music; he always had a song in his heart.
Bill spent his life as "A MAN OF SERVICE". He served his family, his country, his community, his friends, his employers, and his GOD.
Friends will be received 1:00-3:00 p.m. & 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Eric Perry at Cornerstone Community Church 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2015. Military honors and committal will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery,
